PREFACE - A NOTE TO THE READER
Women are still discriminated against in most aspects of society. They are discriminated against in employment, housing, education, and many other areas.
More women vote than men. So why are we allowing workplace abuse (sexism, sexual harassment, sex discrimination, stalking, intimidating, workplace violence, etc.) to take place? There must be new legislation introduced to protect women who are usually single parents and heads of household.
There is a lack of sensitivity in the workplace. Women are treated poorly by their colleagues and superiors simply because they are women. They are stalked, intimidated and hounded for sex by male managers and co-workers and will become victims of sexual assaults. Many women walk away from the workplace because they don't understand their rights. There must be a major educational campaigns to educate women and others on their rights.
The minimum wage must be raised in every city. The minimum wage is so low that women cannot afford to provide daycare and food for their families. Therefore the families are not provided with good nutrition. Facilities like churches must assist families with low cost daycare which should include parenting classes.
Women legislators and others must ensure there are laws created to protect women in the workplace. They must work to change "Right-to-Work Laws" and revamp the EEOC system.
EEOC is suppose to be the governmental agency that ensures equal treatment for all Americans in the workplace. EEOC doesn't enforce anything but the right of managers to abuse employees. EEOC will discourage you from filing a complaint or they will say you filed too late. EEOC doesn't work. So what are we doing about it? We must introduce new legislation while abolishing the EEOC system and replace it with something that do work.
We must connect the present conditions in the community with "employment discrimination." We need to look at criminalizing discrimination because people do end up homeless.
Women have no other options but to turn to prostitution or selling drugs just to feed their families and they ultimately end up in prison. New statistics have shown that women are the new rising population in our prisons. Therefore a strong message must be sent to our legislators.
Sometime these women who were "wrongfully terminated" from their jobs or ended up on "unpaid stress leave" move in with men that they don't necessarily want to be with just to feed their children. This type of cohabitation ends up in domestic violence where the women is eventually maimed or killed.
We, as citizens of this country must give women and others more options. But yet their should be programs available where women can still get paid while they are seeking and receiving treatment for depression brought on by enduring years of working in a hostile working environment.
Latest statistics shows that it is women, single parents and heads of households who are the latest victims of this economy, the outsourcing of jobs and the downsizing of corporations. These women who could be your mothers, sister, daughters and nieces - must be protected at all costs.
So remember women next year when these legislators come out of hiding since it is an election year, make sure they address the seriousness of women and abuse in the workplace. If legislators and others don't have a plan to deal with workplace discrimination in support of women employees and others, then they are not worthy of our votes. We must vote them out of office and send them home without a job. Then they will get our message.
